Signs Your Puppy Needs To Go Potty

When it comes to getting a new puppy, potty training is often the last thing that you think about until you wake up one morning to find a “surprise” on your new rug. Learning how to potty train a puppy is one of the very first things you should learn so you can teach your puppy how to do it properly.
This article will help you get started by helping you understand what you should watch for when your puppy needs to go out, what to do if he doesn’t go potty right away, and how to reward your puppy when he does go it the right spot. So let’s look at how your puppy will behave when he’s got to go.
Often times when your new puppy has to go potty, he will give you some signs, like walking in circles, or sniffing the ground. All puppies are different so you should watch what your puppy does before he goes to the bathroom when you take him out.
For example, if you take your pup outside and right before he goes, you see him sniffing the ground in a certain way then that is something you should watch for to help your puppy avoid an accident in the house. You will want to reward your puppy every time he goes to the bathroom where you want him to.
Rewarding your pup is the most effective way to make sure he does something right. Since we are potty training, rewarding him when he eliminates in a certain spot will help him realize that is what he should do. Treats and praise work very well for this and will give your pup a confidence boost that will let you teach him other things more easily.
But what should you do if your puppy doesn’t go right away?
When you take your pup outside, you should watch him every minute to make sure he actually goes. Take him to the same spot every time and make sure he actually goes potty.
My puppy would actually start to go potty, stop, then go smell a leaf or start playing and act like she was done with her business. When we got back inside she would pee on the kitchen floor. I found out that by leaving her outside just a few minutes longer that I could avoid this because she would go potty again in a few minutes.
The main thing is to watch your pup at all times and as simple as this seems, it is often overlooked by most people because they just don’t have the time, but it’s important if you really want to potty train your puppy and it is not forever, just until your puppy understands that they should wait to go outside to go to the bathroom.
