Boxer Puppy Potty Training Tips

Boxer puppy potty training can be a challenge for most people mainly because of the boxer’s playful personality. They grow up into big strong dogs so potty training them is something you should think about doing when they are very young.

This will make life a lot easier in the long run and you won’t have to worry about leaving your boxer by himself for a little while. These dogs are very smart and learning seems to come natural to them which is good, but if you don’t have a set routine for your boxer you will have some trouble potty training this playful breed.

Setting up a routine for your boxer puppy will make potty training much easier because your puppy will know when it is time to go out before you do. Getting to this point takes a lot of practice, but it is possible as long as you don’t give up.

A good way to start potty training your boxer is to take him outside every few hours. Take him to the same spot and at the same times every day to get him into a routine. It also helps to feed and water your boxer puppy at the same times every day, and not leave food and water around so he can drink whenever he wants to.

If you can’t watch your boxer all the time you may want to invest in a crate. Crates are great for keeping your puppy out of trouble when you are not able to watch him. Your boxer puppy may not like his new crate at first, but if you give him praise and treats every time he goes into his crate, it soon becomes a home for him and he will gladly go in and sleep or hang out while you are away.

Praising your boxer puppy when potty training him is probably the fastest way to get him used to the fact that he should go potty outside. But don’t just say “good boy” and expect that to work. Get excited when your boxer puppy goes potty outside in his potty spot.

If your pup sees you getting excited over something that he is doing at that moment, he will associate what he is doing with your excitement and it will encourage him to do it again.

Boxers are smart dogs and if you give them enough time and treats they can be potty trained very quickly. There are several ways you can make this happen such as by using word association, and watching your puppy for certain signs that indicate he has to go out and do his business.
